As a Security Manager at Alliander, I help keep the Dutch energy grid secure and resilient against both current and emerging cyber threats.
My work mainly focuses on three areas:
Apart from that, I like to spend time doing fitness (my favorite exercise is the deadlift!), taking part in kickboxing classes, and from time to time I try to mix some tracks together with my DJ controller (and nice lighting setup, powered by QLC+).
As lead developer at Montsecure, I worked on making 5G networks safer for everyone. I was lead in developing a software solution to automatically run security tests on network functions in 5G core. The software can simulate attacks on 5G and will determine whether a 5G network is vulnerable to such an attack. Additionally, the software can be used to help certify networks based the BSI NESAS scheme.
As lead developer, I focused on determining the future directions of our software products. Additionally, I did a lot of research regarding the SCAS tests for the 5G specification. Some of these SCAS tests have been incorporated in the 5G specification.
For my internship, I joined Yoast to solve a couple security questions they had about their software. During my internship, I recommended a secure way of providing automated updates for Yoast SEO (by improving the underlying WordPress infrastructure). I also designed a method they could use to securely connect plugin installations to their MyYoast platform.
After my internship, Yoast asked me to stay working for them. I worked there for about a year as a Junior Software Developer where I learned software development processes in a big organisation. I also helped with some architectural changes to the Yoast SEO plugin.
During my studies, I assisted in many different courses as student assistant. This usually involved grading homework and giving tutorials, but there were also courses where I played a more significant role. One example is the GiPHouse course. For this course, I, along with several fellow students, maintained the AWS infrastructure. We additionally also recruited companies for projects for the course.
In my third year of studies, I joined the board of the Science Faculty's umbrella organization. I was responsible for the association's finances, including bookkeeping, budgeting, and overall financial health. Since my time on the board, I've also played a major role in organizing the "BeestFeest". This is Nijmegen's biggest student party, held six times a year at Doornroosje. I held contact with the DJs and initiated several process changes (debit card payments, online ticket sales, and a new website).
In 2019, the Radboud University hosted the BAPC (Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest). I was on the committee that organised the contest and primarily focused on the logistics of it.
